We are excited to say that the next stage of the project took place today. We have started the internal pilot here at Bow Valley College. We tried out the pre-test for Test 2 with a group of 25 students. We received very positive feedback from the test-takers including compliments such as the noticable value of the test, the practical nature of the reading and the familiarity of the content. They also provided valuable information in the questions they asked in terms of clarification on instructions, details of expectations, and specifics on the whole point of the tool we are developing.
The next step for us in this process is to score the tests. We will work with the class instructor for this process and besides giving the students feedback on their abilities in prose and document use, we will look for:

Bow Valley College is currently developing an adult reading assessment resource, referenced to the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS). This is an easy to use, pencil and paper tool designed to compliment any reading or language course in programs such as literacy, upgrading GED, apprenticeship, transition to work, and workplace.
